Ok! So I’m struggling a bit to get back into practising, probably because I’m a bit crap and I’m a bit embarassed and there’s no privacy. Daft huh? anything, my thinking is that by turning it into a bit of a project and trying to make it something half (a third?) good I’ll be more keen to scales and things.
So here’s the start point. A £10 C Giant (whodey?) Strat replica from Facebook Marketplace. It was in grim condition on pick up and this is after quite a lot of care. From what I can tell online you get two opinions 1) Its absolute poop or 2) Its so cheap its incredible, you used to have to mortgage your house for a Strat, so STFU you bearded guitar goons. I have no opinion, as frankly, I’m not good enough to say more than… strings? Check. Looks like Blackie? Check. Do I wish it was a BC Rich Warlock and I was 14? Check. Here’s the start picture.

Things to do:
- Replace le knobs
- Replace le white bit
- Check pickup selector does what it should https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaqWlCP_qIs
- Fender wiring mod
- Replace pickups
- Replace le dodgy connecting jack.
Step 1. Replace Le Knobs
I started by using this careful and sensible technique involving using an old rag you have lying around (?) but soon got bored and went for a plectrum wedge and door forcer. https://youtu.be/IVRUMuEjBzk

Yes there’s grease on the body… jeez. Investment to date 77 new pence and 23 minutes.
